Stabat Mater
Synopsis
In All Souls, a collection of 16 Short films, Dutch filmmakers respond to the polemic that occured in the Netherlands after Dutch director Theo van Gogh was brutally murdered in 2004.
In Stabat Mater a woman frees herself, while singing, from endless meters of fabric entangled around her body. Her white naked body reveals itself as a symbol against oppression and fundamentalism.
She sings a part from Stabat Mater, a Latin liturgical text, describing the lament of the mother Mary.
